Adventures for Strings
Composed in 2012, Joe Galuszka's first work takes us on a journey through three jaunty tunes, 'Adventures for Strings' is a three-movement work based on the pastoral fields of Kent and the joviality that can be found in the Garden of England. Influenced by the folk dances of Ralph Vaughan Williams, the work opens with a sprightly fugal like dance celebrating the meadows and fields across the southeastern county, before we divert to a solemn cortege, mourning the forgotten fallen that used to roam these lands during the Great War. We end with a rousing recapitulation - rich in motivic, ever-battling lines, leading us to a brash, energetic ending, that should leave us whistling tunes, all the way home.
